ICF Pool Construction in 30 Steps Lessons Step 17: Complete a Pre-Pour Inspection

Step 17: Complete a Pre-Pour Inspection

Before pouring the concrete, verify that the correct reinforcement, strapping, bracing, and penetrations are in place. It’s always a good idea to do a pre-pour inspection before pouring your ICF project. Check every aspect of the structure to make sure it is ready for concrete.

Check these areas:

  • Reinforcement
  • Strapping
  • Bracing (if applicable)
  • Penetrations
  • Access area for a concrete truck
  • Mark the location where rebar pins will be placed in the top course and have them easily available

Lastly, take a final look at your concrete order and make sure that the correct amount and proper mix were ordered. It is often advisable to let the mixing plant know that it is an ICF pour and that you will be testing slump during the pour.

Slump concrete when it arrives at your jobsite to verify the mix is correct.  A typical mix is 3,000 PSI concrete with 3/8ths inch chip mix at a 5 ½ to 6-inch slump out of the pump. A concrete mix that is too wet will cause too much pressure on the ICF forms. A mix that is too dry will not pump or consolidate properly.
