Step 10: Cut Penetrations and Install Sleeves
Penetrations and sleeves are required for plumbing, lighting, and other electrical components. Penetrations in ICF pools are accomplished in the same way as traditional ICF walls. The location of the penetration should be marked on the wall and then cut to fit the sleeve snugly.
The sleeve for a penetration should be constructed to the size required and no larger. Typically PVC pipe is used and placed through the ICF wall. The pipe should extend past the ICF several inches until the final wall is poured.
Use spray foam adhesive around the sleeve on both sides to seal the sleeve in place and prevent any concrete leakage. If multiple penetrations are close to each other, be sure to brace and strap as necessary and use proper vibration techniques to ensure that there is adequate concrete consolidation around all penetrations. When cutting penetrations, ensure that no debris falls into the wall cavity. If it does, remove it prior to pouring the walls.
Install foam insulation under the floor before the rebar grid is installed.
