ICF Construction in 25 Steps Lessons Step 21: Finishing the Pour

Step 21: Finishing the Pour

When you pour the top course, pour it slightly high since the concrete will settle a little when vibrated.

Typically a total wall height of no more than 16 feet is poured at one time. This is the recommendation of most bracing manufacturers as well. The time difference between pouring in multiple lifts or all at once is negligible since concrete is pumped at a consistent rate.

Unless you’re continuing up to a second story, use a concrete trowel to screed the concrete flush with the top of the wall. Place roof attachments as necessary before the concrete sets up.

Step 21: When topping the wall, leave extra concrete until all consolidation is completed. Place anchor bolts or straps when leveling the wall after consolidation. Time is of the essence, make sure you have time to finish, plumb, and level the wall before concrete sets.
