Man Hour Calculation

When calculating for basic man hours per square foot use these equations.

First, determine your total man hours:

[People] × [Hours] = [Total Man Hours]

Then determine the gross wall square footage of the structure:

[Liner Feet of Wall] × [Wall Height in Feet] = [Gross Wall Square Footage]

Lastly, divide the Total Man Hours by the Gross Wall Square Footage to get the Total Man Hours Per Square Foot

[Total Man Hours] ÷ [Gross Wall Square Footage] = [Man Hours Per Square Foot]

Keep in mind that is is an after the job calculation method and not a bid calculation method, but will give you a sense for how to staff your crews for future jobs.

General Man Hour Ranges
  1. .05 – .10 Simple
  2. .09-.12 Moderate
  3. .10-.20 Complex
  1. Complexity Factor
    1. A complexity factor may be added for jobs with stringent job site requirements, safety regulations, security, or complexity such as many corners, elevation changes, or openings.
  2. New Crew Rates
  3. Experienced Crew Rates

Crew rates will fluctuate based on the experience of the team members. Extra cost may also occur if a job has an added complexity factors such as stringent job site requirements, safety regulations, security, or just based on the overall complexity of the project.
