Installing Bracing

Components of a Bracing System

Most bracing systems are composed of four components:

  1. Strongback – the vertical upright section that attaches to the ICF wall.
  2. Outrigger – this connects the anchor foot and strongback diagonally and contains an adjustment mechanism to move the brace in or out to assist with alignment.
  3. Anchor Foot – this is placed securely on the ground and is staked into dirt or sand, or attached temporarily to the concrete slab.
    • If unable to use tapcon screws into a slab, a piece of 2×6 may be glued to the clean slab.
    • The bracing may then be attached to the wood.
    • When finished, remove the bracing and wood and scrape clean to remove all traces.
  4. Safety Rail- The optional BuildBrace Steel Safety Rail is designed to integrate into the bracing system and provide easy and quick safety rail installation.

The final working height should be sufficient to place vertical rebar, inspect the wall cavity, safely pour the ICF wall, and internally vibrate during the pour.
