Placing Reinforcement

Horizontal rebar in the foundation should be placed correctly before the footing or foundation is poured. The use of rebar chairs or other methods to ensure rebar is correctly placed inside the concrete is required.

Vertical rebar in the foundation should be placed appropriately before the poured foundation is set. The vertical dowels should extend beyond the top of the footing at least 24” or more depending on lap requirements, seismic ratings, and wind load ratings.

Horizontal rebar in walls should be placed as specified as the wall is stacked according to building code, local codes, prescriptive, or site specific engineering.

Vertical rebar should be placed after the wall is completely stacked or before the last course is placed. Always place vertical rebar before the concrete is poured into ICF walls.
