Common Seams / Vertical or Stack Joints

Sometimes a minimum offset cannot be maintained in a wall because of differences between structure designs and standard ICF dimensions.

Vertical seams should ideally have at least an 8” offset in the wall and be 16” (2 webs) from a corner. If closer, use horizontal strapping material to secure forms together on BOTH sides of the ICF wall.

Add additional bracing on both sides of the wall at the seam.

Strapping Material

Strapping can be 1×3 strips of wood made out of 2x or larger lumber of sufficient length and strength. These are cut and then attached to a stable portion of the wall. When creating strapping for field cut radii use a flexible strapping such as Masonite to hold the cut blocks in place.

Strapping Strategies

Strapping should always extend at least 2 webs on either side of the seam. When strapping field fabricated corners, especially in larger walls (14”+), the strapping must reach back to the rest of the wall at least 2 full webs EVERY course and extend past the corner.
